When was the last time you went out on a date with your partner? Chances are you would have headed to the latest restaurant that opened up in town or to catch the latest movie. The next time, think different. How about a picnic? Or a hike, if you are the adventurous type? Heading outdoors on a date can be a great way to spend some quality time together, while making a fitness buddy out of your significant other! Here are a few ideas.

1) Hiking

Hitting the trail is not just a great workout but also fosters closeness. It can be a fun and romantic way to spend a day together. Make sure you choose a trail that is at a level that you’re both comfortable with.

2) Camping

You, your partner, a tent and Mother Nature – what more could you ask for? Roughing it out together can really help you bond and give you anecdotes that you can laugh over later!

3) Biking

Rent bicycles if you don’t own any and set out to explore a part of your city that you’re not familiar with. Or you can escape the city and spend some time meandering around fields and farms on the outskirts. This is also a great way to get the heart pumping and burn a few calories in the process!

4) Sports

No, video games do not count. Get out in the open – go for a run or skateboarding. Or grab your tennis racquets, pretend you’re Steffi Graf & Andre Agassi and have your own love match! Better yet, team up and participate in a competitive sport.

5) Beach Fun

If you stay close to a beach, plan an entire day by the sea – sunbathing, romantic walks on the beach, building sand castles, swimming, even things like surfing and beach volleyball – there is no dearth of activities. Don’t forget your sunscreen, though!

6) Stargazing

Drive a little outside the city so that the bright lights do not distract you from observing the heavenly bodies. Try to recognize the constellations, or, for fun, make some up yourself!

7) Walking the dog

If you’re a pet owner, don’t make walking the dog a chore. Make it a couple’s activity, get some exercise and catch up on each other’s day.

8) Gardening

If you’re one of the lucky folks who have their own garden, tend to it together. Sure, you will get your hands dirty, but watching the fruits of your shared labour grow is a priceless reward.

9) Picnic

Put together a picnic basket with your favourite foods and drinks, grab a blanket and head to your nearest park for an impromptu lunch. Do check whether you need any permission; it’s no fun being chased out of the park by an angry guard!

10) Concerts

If you and your partner are musically inclined, make a date the next time your city hosts an outdoor concert. Whether it’s your favourite band or a genre that you don’t normally listen to, a concert is a great way to spend time together. You may even find ‘your song’!

So go ahead & indulge in one (or more) of these activities with your loved one!
