I find it a little crazy to watch so many people caught in a vicious circle of consuming pill after pill in the hope of losing weight. But I was once a victim of this as well.

I popped diet pills and I did lose weight. I also developed some rather horrible side effects including lethargy, constipation and depression. When I stopped taking the pills I gained the weight back…. and more. I also suffered from constipation, which became like a constant companion, so much so that I had two surgeries due to an abscess in my rectum. Not surprisingly, a few years later that specific diet pill was actually banned.

Every year new products come onto the market and proclaim to work miracles. What they forget to tell you is about the side effects that may include fatigue, irritability, nausea, constipation, headaches, dizziness, hair loss, dry skin and bad breath.

While you take diet pills, your body is enduring a significant degree of stress. To withstand this stress your body produces these side effects. Furthermore, you may find that you also start suffering from kidney damage or gallstones.

I know because I was one the people who fell for this, and I don’t want to see anyone else suffer like I did. The sad part is many people fall for gimmicks like diet pills and meal replacements, seeking a short cut to health. Instead many end up falling sick, due to mineral and vitamin deficiencies.

All of us have different needs and varied lifestyles; unless we have a balanced diet that includes all the nutrients we need, it is almost inevitable that ill health will follow.

With a little knowledge about eating well, we can all develop healthy eating habits. Add in some exercise and you have routine that will last for a lifetime, without needing to resort to diet pills or meal replacements to lose weight.
